New Wiltshire Council Parish Steward for the parish
There is a new Wiltshire Council parish steward for Melksham Without - Emma. Here she is meeting parish officer Lorraine to discuss the parish council's priorities, hot spots and the list of current jobs.
The parish steward is a discretionary service provided by Wiltshire Council. It's for work on the highway, by a trained operative but with hand tools (not machinery). The allocation is 3 days per month for Melksham Without, but there is a huge area to cover and the parish steward can be pulled off for training/emergency/weather related works elsewhere.
These are the priorities that the parish council use:
Any jobs which would prevent potential flooding (ie gulley and grip clearance, especially in Shaw, Whitley and Beanacre)
Clearance of overgrown vegetation on footways abutting main roads, so A350 though Beanacre and the A365 (particularly the A365 on the approach to both Shaw Primary and Melksham Oak)
Any other jobs which are non-statutory or have been closed down on the Wiltshire Council App.
This week the A350 pavement between Burnt Cottages and Old Road had its vegetation cleared (we only had Emma for half a day!) and some work in Shaw was completed. If there are highways works that are required, that fit the criteria, please contact Lorraine on firstname.lastname@example.org or call on 01225 705700.
