Could you be our next Parish Councillor?
Melksham Without Parish Council is looking for someone who cares about their local community and would like to help make a difference!
There is currently a vacancy for a Parish Councillor for the Beanacre, Shaw, Whitley & Blackmore Ward. Following the publication of the statutory Notice of Vacancy, no election was requested. This means that the Parish Council can now fill the vacancy through a process known as co-option, where interested and eligible individuals can apply directly to the Council.
Who can apply?
You do not have to live in the Beanacre, Shaw, Whitley & Blackmore Ward to apply. We would welcome interest from people living locally who meet the legal eligibility requirements and have an enthusiasm for their community. You don't need any previous council experience. What matters is a willingness to get involved, listen to local people, contribute ideas and work with fellow councillors to support the parish.
Why become a Parish Councillor?
Being a parish councillor is an opportunity to play an active role in your local community. Parish councillors are involved in a wide range of local matters, including community facilities, planning consultations, highways and road safety, the local environment, and projects that support and improve our villages and rural areas. It's an opportunity to bring your knowledge, experience and perspective to the Council and help shape decisions that affect local residents.
How do I apply?
If you would like to be considered, please write to the Clerk with a few details about yourself, why you would like to become a councillor and what you feel you could bring to the role. The deadline for expressions of interest is Thursday 5 November 2026.
Applicants will be considered at the Parish Council meeting on Monday 9 November 2026 at 7pm. Applicants are invited to attend and say a few words about themselves.
